Vashon Island Art Studio Tour – Spring 2014

May 3-4 & 10-11, 2014, 10am to 5pm

Vashon Island artists throw open their studio doors to share an exceptional array of artwork in this free, self-guided tour.

The Spring 2014 Vashon Island Art Studio Tour is held for two consecutive weekends, May 3-4 & 10-11. Studios will be open from 10am-5pm.

Rain or Shine, add this event to your Spring calendar of “must do” activities.  Presented by the artists of Vashon Island, the Art Studio Tour is a celebration of the visual arts and creative process. It is a genuine opportunity for visitors to meet artists and craftspeople in their studios (many of which are not typically open to the public) and purchase artwork directly from the individual who created it.

The 2014 Tour features 23 studios and collective gallery destinations that feature the work of painters, potters, weavers, sculptures, printmakers, jewelers, photographers, wood carvers and glass artists eager to share their unique work and creative vision.

Vashon Island is a fun ferry ride from either Fauntleroy (West Seattle), or Point Defiance (Tacoma), or Southworth (Kitsap). Boats leave often and schedules can be found at www.wsdot.wa.gov/ferries.  The Vashon Island Art Studio Tour map/brochure is available on line at www.VashonIslandArtStudioTour.com and at island business and art studios once you are on island. All art tour stops are identified and described in the map/brochure. Just follow the numbers to discover an island of artists and artwork to treasure.

Ukrainian Egg Workshops: Spring 2014

Learn the art of making pysanky (batik Easter eggs) using flame-heated tools and ancient beeswax-resist techniques. This meditative art form, practiced in Ukraine and Eastern Europe for thousands of years, is a beautiful way to welcome in the spring.

Emily Pruiksma, an artist with over 25 years experience making pysanky, will offer a Ukrainian egg making workshop on Sunday, April 6, 2014 from 2-4 pm at Fiddle Home Studio on Vashon Island. Participants will complete 1-2 eggs and take home a full kit of supplies. Cost is $45 plus a $20 supply fee. Adults and children (ages 10 and older) are encouraged to register.

Class size is limited. To reserve a space, please email fiddlehome [at] gmail [dot] com or call (206) 745-0451. Individual and private group sessions are also available; please inquire if interested.

For more information on pysanky supplies, please visit Emily's online shop: UkrainianEggSupplies.etsy.com
